Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday. Present— Messrs B. Boys (chairman), H. Braithwaite, W. Booth, W. Parks*, E. W. Dorset, H. B. Bunny, J. Rayner, and James Stevens, The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter Jfrom Messrs Johnson and Thom, sou. asking for repairs to the rood leading to their property.
The Warden stated that he weald see to it as soon as the weather permitted. A letter was received from Mr Batler, re fencing road, bat no action was action. Mr T. Conway wrote asking the Board to find him some employment. The Chairman was authorised to employ him at etonebreaking in his ward. Messrs Wickersou and Eaton waited on the Beard in reference to a road at Kokataa. The same thing was before the Board last year, and the Board obtained the opinion of their solicitor on the matter. As the road leads through native land, the opinion given was that the Board had no legal right to the road, but the present lessee does not object to the road, providing that it is fenced. The Warden offered the deputation £lO, providing they would fence the road, which they accepted. Tenders were received for the bridge on Swamp road, and Mr Qeo. Waterson’a was accepted, at £25 ; and for cutting drain on the same road Mr H. Cooradson’a at £llss per chaiq, was accepted. Mr llayner was authorised to employ a man on Hughes's line, to rake in the ruts and break the stoues.
Mr Booth asked leave to give notice that he would, at the next meeting of the Board, propose that this Board avail themselves of the privilege of the Local Bodies Borrowing Powers Act, 1886. Borne accounts were passed for payment.
kSoino discussion arose about naming tbe roads in the different wards, but was left till tbe next meeting. This concluded the business.
