The Seat for Wellington South
Im Wellington City, people are already speculating ■■ .to what will take plaoa when the general election comes off. It is rather early in the day for euch prognostications, as another session of the present Government has still to be held before a dissolution of Parliament takes place. Besides, it is prob* able that the Representation Bill may be passed daring the next Parliamentary session, in which ‘case there might be an amalgama* bon of the three Wellington City electorates into a single electorate, returning three members. However, that may be, it is now stated that the Wellington Mayor, Mr A. W. Brown, intends to stand for Wellington South at the next general election and contest the seat against the present member, Mr George Fisher. If Mr Brown should carry oat bis intention, and Mr Fisher, at the time of the contest, be in his best “ form,” then there will be a great fight indeed and any quantity of " wigs on the green.” Mr Brown is a fairly good can* vasser, bat be isn't a patch to Geprge Fisher at electioneering, platform work, and " stump oratory.” Bat “ it’s a far cry to the next general election,” and when that comes there may be no South Wellington Klectorate in existence—that and the Te Aro and Thorndon Electorates being then possibly absorbed into a single electorate tor the whole of Wellington City.
