OOVEENWBNT LOANS TO LOCAL BODIES On Tuesday, iu the Legislative Council, Mr Buckley moved .that Dr Pollen, Mr Miller, Mr Wilson and Mr McLean be appointed managers in a second (tee conference to confer with a like number of managers of the House of Representatives on the questions in dispute between tbs two Chambers iu the Government Loans to Local Bodies Bill. The motion was agreed to. and the Council (at 8 o’clock), adjourned to the following day. vaile’s railway system. On Thursday, in the House of Represents' rives, the Vaile Railway Committee brought in their report. The Treasurer said it might be postponed lor a fortnight. Subsequently he agreed that it should be postponed (or a day or two. DISTBICT RAILWAYS PURCHASE BILL. There was a fight as to the amount of money to be paid by Government for parrienlar lines. Ultimately a sum of £31,000 instead el L 27.000 was agreed to, whereupon Mr Wakefield said it was a fact which onght to go forth to the people that in committee, by a majority of two, £4OOO of public money had, at the instance of the Go» vernmsnt, been voted away by the Committee. Alter some further debate the third reading was carried by 23 to 18, sud the Bill passed.
PARLIAMENT AT NELSON. On tbs notion to go into Committee Supply. lit Ken moved that a special provision •honld be made this session (or the next session of Parliament to be held at Nelson, Lost on the voices. PUBLIC WORKS ESTIMATES. These Estimates were considered. A discussion took place on the vote School Buildings, L 50.000. Mr Turnbull said he •honld move to strike it out. Mr Guinness moved to reduce this vote by L 450. The vote was agreed to without alteration. i The Estimates were finally concluded at 3 o'clock when the bouse rose. LOCAL BODIES LOAHS BILL. On Friday in the Legislative Council the managers of the Looal Bodies loans Bill brought up tbsir report which stated that they bad been unable to come to any decision at the free conference. BABBITS ASK THEIR ENEMIES. Mr fieetham asked the Government, If they will place a sum of money on the Supplementary Eatimates for the purpose of subsidising voluntary contributions raised by associations ‘for tbs purpose of importing tbs natural enemies of the rabbit. BABBIT ACT AMENDMENT BILL. Tbs Bill was read tbs third time, and passed. THE BEFBEaEKTATICK BILL DEFEATED. Alter a long debate on the proposal to eornmit this Bill, the motion was put to a division and lost by 39 to 36 vstas.
