A Possible New Gold Field.

I< is just possible that there is to be another good gold field in this colony. A paper was recently laid before Parliament giving an account of a prospecting expedition made by Messrs Timothy Carey and Robert Hyndman, in the Rig Ray and Ret Hi,] Districts, on the West Coast of the South Island. From tlie character of the gold, which was not water worn, Mr Carey believes that the reefs are not far distant and that they are rich. At the junction of the Jerry and Gorge rivers three men iu twelve davs obtained with a common sluice box 6oz ef gold and oOlba of nickel Mr Carey gives his opinion that the district is one of the richest in the Australasian Colonies, and that before long there will be a greater rash to it than there is now to the Kimberley. This opinion is confirmed by Mr Hyndman.
