Volunteering.

The Greytown Volunteers will muster for Church Farads on Sunday next. The Papawai corps have been invited, aud the Featherton company will probably be present. After drill last night tbe Greytown Rifle Volunteers held a meeting for the nomination of officers. Several gentlemen were nominated for tbe position of Captain, and as one Sergeant and two Corporals are required, tbe folowing were nominated for promotion:— Corp Maguire, Lance Corporal Collier, Vols G. Humphries, Smith, F. Hawke, aud Moors. The election will take place next Tuesday night, August 3rd, when it will be necessary for the whole strength of the Company to bs present. Lieut Cameron announced that tbe next inspection parade will take place on August 12 (Thursday). It was suggested at tbe meeting that the Volunteers should arrange a dance after their weeky drills, and invite their lady friends to be present. The motion seemed to meet with much favour.

After drill yesterday the Papawai Rifles marched to tbe rifle range, when for the first time many of them fired from a rifle. The distance chosen by tbe Instructor was 200 yards standing, and five shots were given to each. Vol Tnboro took the lead with thirteen points. The other scores are as under : —Sergts Tanern and Ngatuere, twelve each ; Col Sergt Maaibera, Vol D King, Hona R E. Uanihera, ten each ; H King, eight ; Norman and Erwin, nine ; Corporals Faulkner Tamsti, and H Manihers, seven each ; Isaacs, six; P Diamond and B Benbeu, five ; Sam Bewi and A Robert 2. Captain Jury was present during tbe proceedings.
