London despatches of the 23rd June say that ia Egypt and Burmah the British are threatened with increased difficulties. The conduct of the campaign in the latter country as well as the methods of settling the Government arc alike a failure. Thebaw's disbanded soldiers are constantly attacking the British garrison. Every attack has been repulsed, bnt the garrison are worn out with incessant duty. In Egypt the dervishes are mumming activity, and the Soudan border is once more threatened by clouds of rebels. From both countries come argent calls for reinforcements. A despatch from Rangoon of 29th June saysA force of British troops, with two batteries, bad a severe fight with 1500 Burmese rebels strongly entrenched near Tnmmoc. The fight lasted five hours. The British, failing to dislodge the Burmese, retired. Several officers were killed and wounded.
