At tbe Oreylown R. M. Court yesterday a civil case, B. B. Manibera v. B. Hall, damages £l, was heard before Messrs Wood audSpratt and dismissed. Mr Gladstone's Government has resigned and Lord Salisbury sent for by the Queen. Mrs W. Taylor, sen., Nelson, died on Monday, from the effects of a bee sting.
A meeting of unem ployed was held in D uneui u yesterday. The list shows 93 men,represent' ing 350 souls, enable to get work. It is proposed to - memorialise the Government. The Premier has telegraphed to the unemployed at Auckland that he will consult with Minister of Public Works and see what can be done.

The committee of the Wairarapa Litarary Institute have about £SO in the bank, the proceeds of the Winter Entertainments. In addition to this there is a £25 donation from the Greytown Town Lands Trust. Mr Burnett’s lecture at Martinborough on Wednesday was a very successful one. The audience completely filled the Presbyterian Church and many outside were nnable to find admittance. The lecture was well received. No less than 33 donned the blue—among them some who had come to laugh at the mission. The lecture was the one great theme of conversation in the township yesterday we are told, Mr Burnett did indeed score one at Martinboiough.
The Wairarapa Rugby Football Union have received their uniforms ordered from the New Zealand Clothing Factory. The color is dark green with the letters WEP 9 worked on the breast of the guernsey. The dresses will be worn for the first time tomorrow in the game to be played on the Greytown reserve.

In order that the people of Qreytown may have an opportunity of selecting the latest pieces of music, vocal and instrumental, Mr W. 0. Nation has made an arrangement with Mr W. H. Spiller, the music seller, «f Wellington, to keep a stock at tbe Standabd Office. The collection of music will be a varied one, comprising comic and sentimental songs, duets and choruses, and instrumental music for piano, piano and violin, <fco., &o. It is hoped that a stock of well selected music will be acceptable at the present time when so many are taking part in the Winter Entertainments. Mr Nation has undertaken an agency for Neumeyer’s pianos and will be glad to give every information as to price, terms, &o. Parents with a family growing up should introduce music into the horns if possible. It binds the household together and has an elevating tendency. An instrument can be had on very easy terms. A meeting of the Royal Masterton Lodge of Oddfellows look place last Tuesday night, when the following officers were installed into their various offices for the ensuing term G. A discussion took place on the imponant subject of having an annual moveab.e Committee for New Zealand also the question of a guarantee fund for officers of the Order, and the delegate was instructed to support the same at the District meeting - Daily.

The London correspondent of a Canterbury paper says This will be a good year for frozen mutton. The winter was so. long and severe that all the hay and roots have been used up, leaving all stock, both cattle and sheep, in very poor condition, There will be no fat stock all the summer, except those largely fed on cake and other artificial food. Several times when out in the country lately, I have noticed lambs taken from the ewes and stall fed to try and get them into condition for the butcher.
McDonald, keeper of the Victorian street den, Auckland has been sentenced to three months, for sly-grog selling £25 or a month, and to find two sureties for twelve months for £2OO. This will practically give him i 5 month’s imprisonment. Three of the girls were discharged through giving evidence against him, and three others were sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment. The social state of things disclosed among the lower class is appalling. Captain Kelly, one of the oldest pilots at Otago Heads, died on Wednesday. The triennial Property Tax valuation return, laid upon the table of the House the other night, shows a great improvement in property valuations, notwithstanding the depression which has prevailed during the past three years. The total rateable valuation of boroughs at the 1885 assessment amounted to /32.377.0y8, as against £27,607,897 for 1882, or an increase of £4,769201 ; and of the counties to £64.435.542. as against £06,274,543, or a decrease of £2,819,001. But £3,70,000 has to be added to the proportion of Crown lands, on which rates are payable by occupiers, which is set out in a separate statement this year, but was included in the toial for 1882. The total rateable value ot the properties of the colony in ISBS was £100,532,640, as against £93,882,440 for 1882, or an increase of nearly seven millions
