The Midland Railway Bill
Teis Bill has been carried through Committee iu the House of Representatives without any material alteration. This means, in effect, that the Bill will be passed by the Lower House. It is, however, possible that the Bill may be strongly opposed in the Legislative Council. Should the Bill be finally passed aud become law, then the Great Midland Railway Company will have the opportunity of constructing the proposed railway line. We think it is a good job that the colony has not undertaken this work. The Company formed to construct the line may make the undertaking profitable owing to the large concessions of Crown Lands which they have ebtained. We trust that the shareholders in the Company may not be disappointed. Still, knowing what we do of the nature of the land to be opened up by the new railway line, we are inclined to think that the undertaking will not pay.
