Those Unfortunate Damsels of Featherston.

To the Editor oj the StandardRi»,—Hoity, toity, goodness, gracious ! only to have it recorded in the calamus of the Praia, that with all their embellishments ar d charms, 23 young damsels, with their champion, failed to induce the young men and yokels of Featberston to take them to the weekly hop. The idea of their attending ly themselves upon the bare chance of someone taking them in. It certainly has come to a pretty pass when young damsels (her own designation) so far forget themselves as to tout lor a bean It behoves mothers to look attar their daughters, ai d ask them what right they had there without an escort ? If what abe terms the sterner sex acted as stated they moat have been very stern indeed that particular night. la conclusion, I would recommend those twenty-three yonng damsels to join with their leading lady in endeavouring to form a cooking and mending class, and meet once a week for mutual instruction in housewifery to enable them to become good wives and mothers, and leave a little of the dancing alone ; then no doubt the young men would in time corns and claim them for wives, a* wall as a dance, withont the young damsels giving themselves tbs trouble of advertising themselves in such a ridiculous position. 1 am, do., One of the Yokels.
