GLADSTONE’S BILL DEFEATED.

This morning s Times says : The anxiously expected result of the momentous division in the House of Commons on Mr Gladstone’s Irish proposals arrived last evening. The proposals were rejected by the decisive majority of thirty in an exceptionally full house, the votes being 311 to 311. Mr Olastone, therefore, has only two courses open to him instead of bis favourite three. He must either appeal to the country —if the Queen will grant a dissolution less than a year after the general election —or else he must resign instantly.
