TARATAHT-CABTERTON JOCKEY CLUBS BIRTHDAY MEETING.

President. W, C. Buchanan, MHR; Judge, E. W. Dorset; Handicapper, 11. McMaster; Starter, N. Grace ; Stewards, F. W. R. Seed, B. fi. Buckeridge, S. Tanored, J. Eaton, A. Clifton, N. Grace, and T. Grace ; Clerk of Scales, L. Nix ; Clerk of Course, E. A. Beard ; lion Treasurer, A. McKenzie ; Hon Secretary, G. W. Dollar.

This meeting came oft on Monday with much success, and the weather and course were " par exoelence,” Of course on accoaut of so many counter attractions, which always offer on Queen’s Birthday, the attendance was not so large as at other seasons of the year; still a fair amount of money was invested on the machine, thus preying that many speculators were present. Altogether there must have been 400 people on the course in the afternoon, and many gentlemen from a distance came to enjoy the sport, among these were noticed Mr Uursthonse, MHR. There was also present a good sprinkling of the fair sex. Mr E. H. Buckeridge, of the Marquis, did a good trade at the publican s booth, and Mr A. L. Whyte provided a really excellent lunch in the refreshment booth. The first race was the— Handicap Hurdle Race of 30 sovs ; second horse to receive 5 sovs from the stakes, 14 miles ; over six flights of hurdles 3ft 9ia high. For this race three started, and Freebooter, although the two) jumped the last hurdle together, won rather easily from Spartan. Bobby pulled up lame. Dividend, LI 19s. ; Hack Hurdle Race of 10 sovs. One mile. over four flights of hurdles, 3ft 9in high 10st up.

This race was won by Slaughterman eisily. Kxahange aand Bra also started. Dividend, LI 6s. ■■ Bibxhdav Handicap of 50 boys ; second horse to receive 5 sovs from the stakes. One and a half miles. Mr P. F. Tanored’s Revoke (Vaile) .. 1 J. Harding’s Okato (Skiner) .. ..2

J. Macara’s Rollo 3 Satanolla and First Water also ran. Rollo who was first favorite, bolted before the race commenced, and went nearly twice round the course before his jockey could pull him up When he could be brought to the post a start was effected in which Rollo was left considerably behind, Okato taking the lead followed by Revoke, First Water, Satanella in that order. Then Rollo came on with a big rush, aud at the corner by the road, shifted into second place, and in passing the stand the first time, Okato was stili leading, with Rollo, Revoke, aud Satanella closely attending. First Water was never in the race. At the turn near the gate Rollo assumed first place, and a grand race ensued between Rollo and Okato on the opposite side of the gjjurse from the winning post. Revoke was then coming up in grand style, and after the turn into the straight collared Rollo, who was next overhauled by Okato, aud then a splendid race home eventuated, Revoke ultimately winning by a bare length from Okato. Rollo a good third, Satanella fourth, and First Water last. Time, 3miu I 4-sths secs. Div, L 5 2». Hack Race of 10 sovs. Once round the course. iOat up.

The Hick Uwn was won by Miss Baruara, Slaughterman, My Clmrmor, Pupawai, Exchange), Nancy Lee, E»a, and Aharoa also started. Welter Handicap—Reputation 1, Lady Maud 2, Forward 8. Belling Handicap Hurdles—Loch Lomond 1. At the Sydney Birthdsy Meeting the. Cup was won by All Gold, Corday 2, Serella 3. Won by a neck.
