Colonial Borrowing.

The London Standard contains an article on loans in which .reference is made to the borrowing of New Zealand. The Standard denounces Sir Julius Vogel, and expresses a hope that not another penny of British savings will be invested in New Zealand. The Standard is perfectly right in distrusting ami denouncing Sir Julius Vogel, but its advice to the British people not to lend a single penny mere to this colony,is irrational and absurd. So long as the borrowing of the colony is moderate and prudent, and the loans are expended carefully on reproductive works, the British capitalist may go on lending with perfect safety. But it is a great misfortune to the colony that Sir Julius Vogel should have anything to do with its financial affairs. His association with the aoloa; tends to give it a bad name.
