Protection and Labor.

Those who advocate a protective policy for this colony should look to what is at present happening in the United States. Labor riots are taking place all over the country; an enormous amount of property baa been destroyed ; while fights have occurred between the rioters and the police and troops, resulting in heavy loss of life on both sides. Dynamite bombs were thrown amongst the police by the rioters, dealing havoc to life and limb, while it is stated that the destruction to the city of Chicago was contemplated by similar means. It is the policy of Protection adopted iu the United States lor years past, which has resulted in enormous over production and ultimate stoppage of factories and the creation of a vast body of unemployed workmen. Starving men are usually driven to despair, of whicti the natural outcome is riot, destruction and pillage. These labor riots will be put down lor the time, but the causes will remain, and future outbreaks are certain to take place.
