Hotel Accommodation.

To the Editor of the Standard,

Sir,— l quite agree with your correspondent “ South Greytown ” re the uew hotel. II we are going to have another licensed bouse is Greytown, let it be on the South eud ; or on the old or near the old site of the “ Rising Sun ”is the best. The north end and centra of the township are already well supplied with hotels and a liquor shop ; a fourth establishment of that sort would simply overdo it, “ The more the merrier/' and “ the better lor the public ” by no meant holds good in this instance, as, where the competition in trade is so strong, inferior liquor will surely be sold to make two ends meet; and too much accommodation will only result in neglect and bad attendance, aa none of them will be able to afford to keep a sufficient staff of servants to attend to the wants of their only occasional patrons. To say that more accommodation in Greytown was wanted during the late Kaoe Meeting ia only partly applicable and misleadiug, in so far as two Race Meetings, or rather two buy days in a year will not keep a hotel all thie year round. It is a well known fact that the two present hotels are but just getting a barg. living, and where the trade for two megf hotels ia to come from I don't know. £ building erected on the old •• Sun "• git* would meet all the requirements, bat jg seems to me altogether wroug to has* another licensed house right in the neighbourhood ol all the other houses, and leave the sooth end still unprovided. A numerously s ßntf | petition ia now being taken round aga< mu U* granting ol a license for an ho‘,«T in tbo centre of the township, and will presented to the liewsing Bench at the proper time. To owot 0 hoWi hu(jl\ ns the one oontemplated, would cos', somewhere abowt £3OOO. The interest ou tue mn <y would amount to .tlli tv; it? a wi ck.bosi lea all the expenses sue I ,,'.iiMUaur.c, license, servants, &c. The wisn'i would expend such an amount in a tutel M i ci-, K ,. p, (he otben must be a tery sanguine m dividual indeed. 1 fear it will be a " whit* elephaof,” au.i suggest lliL a-, the name ot of the new , lr | I ask the resident* ol'Gi t-Mown in unite •,ud support the erection ,-l an hotni at, the Soijib end, ivUea c-v; ryh i.l.y 1 1. be pleased and setved 7 especially yours obediently, Onk A'u-i K< iws.
