Greytown Hospital Soiree.

The second annual soiree in connection ' with the above institution took place on the night of Easter Monday at the Town Hall, and was in every way the success anticipated. I This was due to the liberality of several of the residents, to the way in which the ladies worked, and to the time and trouble taken by Mr P, H. Wood, the secretary of the Hospital Committee, and his assistant, Mr Cox, of the Greytown School. Both those gentlemen undertook a heavy task, and their excellent arrangements and general good management were frequently spoken of on Monday evening. Mr Wood is just the person to carry anything of this kind through with success ; he possesses plenty of energy, and being a general favorite with the gentler sex, he has no ditliculty in gathering a bevy of fair workers. Mr Cox, though a comparative stranger in Greytown, has shown that ha is both able and willing to help in our local entertainments, and he deserves special thanks for the interest he took in the present soiree. A most enjoyable evening was spent by the numerous company. There were about 120 persons present, a few of whom were visitors from Carterton and Featherston. The mnsic was firstolass, being supplied by Messrs Eaisenberg, Lundqvist and Varnham. The spread in the supper room was all that the heart could desire, and the ladies who supplied and laid it out iu such dainty style were paid some pretty compliments for it. Mr and Mrs Reynolds waited upon the visitors with every consideration and considering that they gave their services for the good of the hospital funds, deserve many thanks. Mr Jorgensen, the custodian, also deserves a word of praise for bis efforts to aid the committee. Between £ls and £l6 were taken at the doors in cash and there is no doubt when the tickets are accounted for it will be found that the sum netted will be equal to that of last year. The secretary requests all those persons who have had tickets for sale to send in those not sold in order that the financial result of the soiree may be arrived at.
