Messrs Murray Roberts and Co., of Wei* ling ton, have received Ihe following cable message relating to the London wool market, from Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co., of London :—"London Bth April. Market drooping. Greasy, 10 per cent; scoured, 15 per cent; and crossbred, fine, 7J to 10 per cent below closing ratns of last London sales. For ooarse crossbreds, market shows no change.” The rnceeorse Nelson has been taken to Sydney to compete in the gold cup, to be ran on the 28th instant.
A human skeleton was found at Fipitea Point, Wellington, on Monday morning. It is supposed to have been there for the last forty or fifty years. The Severed Hand conspiracy case ended last Saturday evening at Christchurch. After a short consultation the jury found all the prisoners not guilty on the first count, that of conspiracy, and Howard alone guilty on the second count of attempt to defraud. His Honor sentenced Howard to two years' imprisonment without bard labor. In passing sentence be remarked that he quite agreed with the verdict with regard to tbo Godfreys. He regretted that the law did not allow him to give a more sr.ero punishment, or to sentence the prisoner to hard labor. Mr James Hobman announces that he has commenced business in Greytown, in the premises lately occupied by Mr Gamblin, as wheelwright, blacksmith and farrier. Mr Hobman is a young man who has served bis time to the business and we have no doubt he will receive good support. A very sudden death occurred at Wellington last Monday morning. A man named Anthony Francis was observed by several persons during the morning sitting on some timber at the back of tlje Opera House. He was just about 11 o’clock seen eating some fruit, and was then observed to cough and spit blood. Dr Gillon was at once sent for, but on arriving found that Francis had just expired. The police have not been able to discover who or wbat the deceased was. On his person was found some Wairarapa Hospital tickets, dated 1881, 1882, and 1883, and £B3 10s 9jd in notes, silver, and copper, fhe Post says he appears to have been Buffeting from consumption, and it is supposed that death resulted from the rupture of a blood vessel.
Notwithstanding the promise of the natives to Mr Baliance to open the lake at the new moon, it has not been done up to ihapteaout time. The property holders on the borders are suffering much in consequence. Some gentlemen who take pleasure in the old sport of pigeon shooting will meet at Mr Kimberley's platform farm on Saturday next, at 3 p.m., where birds and traps will be provided. Me Arthur Jones, of the Foresters’ Arms has undertaken to supply eight sets of birds (24), and no doubt others will contribute. It is not expected that 200 persons will be present, but a good social party is certain to be on the ground, as pigeon shooters, as a rule, are never backward in good fellowship.
There was no meeting of the Greytown Cricket Chib last evening, only four per tons attending. The funeral of young Richard Hume, at Wellington, was largely attended.J The Carterton Football Club will open their season on Saturday next in the show grounds.

The Mr Vailauce who was a passenger on board tbe Taiaroa is no relation whatever to the Vallances of the Wairarapa. Simon Chisholm Las published a short letter in an obscure Wairarapa priut, stating that be knew nothing whatever about the police taking action against Eeward Burke at Featberslon. Simon Cbisholm did know, for he begged our reporter to keep the oast out of print. This was not complied with, and he has made a catspaw of the local paper in question. A veritable “ Big Sunflower ” has been produced this season in the garden of Mr John Tnlly, of Greytowu. The flower itself, which has been exhibited in the shop window of Mr St George, chemist, measures 15 inches across tbe lace without tbe fringe. The stem, which grew to a height of nine feet from the grouud, was at the base about six inches in circumference- In proportions this flower should have been quite as happy as any other big sunflower. The Cadet Quadrille Assembly met as usual on Monday evening. The Greytown Assembly meet to-morrow evening. The Taupo Native Lands Court, which has been sitting continuously for three months, and has duriug that time ascertained the title of over one million acres f came to a close late on Saturday night. Some potatoes of immense size can just now be seen in the shop window of Mr T. C. Barnard, Carterton. They were sewn on Mr Hugh MaoMaster’a land at Gladstone, and we judge should weigh from 41bs to 61bs each.
