Concerning Governors.

We do not believe in the system of the Home Imperial Government sending out Governors to this colony. The position should be open to the ablest and best of New Zealand Colonists. Still, the old country sometimes sends a good man to New Zealand as Governor. Sir William Francis Jervois has proved a very good Governor indeed. It is said that he is to be shifted to another post, and that his successor is to be Sir William Robinson, a brother of Sir Hercules Robinson. These frequent changes are net desirable. If the colony is to have an imperially appointed Governor, it would be well that when a first class man like Sir William Francis Jervois obtains the position, he should be allowed to keep it for a reasonable term of years.
