An Elopement.

A sensational elopement has occurred at. New Plymouth- A settlor fell in love with a girl, and the girl fell in love wih him. Her mother, however, refused to give her consent to the marriage, and the couple decided to elope The old lady got scent of this and with a son, saddled their horses and came to town just as the pait were leaving in a trap. The lover and the brother went for each other, the loT'f getting the worst of it. Then the mother suggested that they should go home and talk tbe matter over. The mother lode with the daughter in tbe trap, the lover and brother following on horseback. Ar rived at tbe gate of the paternal mansion the mother got out of the trap, the horsemen dismounted and took off the saddles, and then the lover sprang into the trap, the girl used the whip and away they went to Waitara and caught the steamer for Auckland. The saddle horses were dons up with their double journey, and wets useless in the pursuit.
