Meeting of Creditors.
A meeting ol the creditors iu the estate ol William Joseph Gambliu, blacksmith aud wheelwright, of Qreytown, was held yesterday before Mr Sellar, deputy assignee, iu the oourt house, Qreytown. Nearly all the local creditors were present. The assets were slated as follows Book debts, L 53 15a 3d, estimated to produce LlO ; stock iu trade, L2O; furniture, L 10; total. L7O. Deficiency, L 59 12s 6d. The bankrupt gave the following evidence : —My capital when I commenced business was uil. I got goods from E W Mills and (Jo. Mr Janet backed my bills and Mr Fuller discounted them ; did not meet the first nil! to Mills and (Jo. It was renewed. Paid interest to Mr Fuller for the discount, aud gave him security over tools to the amoaut. 1 believe he has sold the good*
under the sale note I gar* h : m. Wh'U I incurred the liability to Nathan an 1 Co. I did not explain my position. 1 received the gooda from Nathan after the bill I had previously Accepted was dishonored The traveller said he was agreeab'e to advm a me gooda to the amount of L‘iO. Have paid nothing of Nathan's account. Kept a banking account for a short time after 1 started business. Hare bctn in business nearly two yean. To Mr de Clifton-I apent seme money with Veitch and Allen ju*t before I filed. Was sorry for creditors, but could not g<v naked. Suppose the amount of goods recaiva l from Veitch and Allan was about L 6 to LS worth. Mr Bishop, Grey town—He owes me a milk score, but he has spent most of our money in law, bringing people to this Court. To Debtor—Did you not receive 30* or L 8 front a person since yon filed ? Debtor—No. To Deputy Assignee—Tom Ingley gave me an order for a cart to eost about Ll6. I owed him that amount. Tbit was about eight months ago. Tbe oart was not finished. R Crawford sent material to me and I made it up for him. He gave me a cheque for Li 10s for two aeta of buggy wheel* and two poles. Do not understand bookkeeping. Have no sections of land, neither baa my wife. I thought I should get on in business very well without capital. Mr Bishop—Did you not say to your wif* yon would pay me and Quin, but tbe rest must go to b . Mr Sellar to Mr de Clifton : The employe. I are entitled,to three months' wages, if there are funds to pay them. Mr H de Clifton moved, and Mr John Humphries seconded, That tbe bankrupt be examined before the district judge. Carried. The proceeding* then terminated.
