Election Gossip.

The statement made by our contemporary the Star that Mr W. H. Levin intended to stand as a {candidate for Wairarapa South, was simply a catwrd. We know positively that Mr Levin entertains no intention of tie kind. When, owing to ill health, Mr Levin resigned his seat for Thorndon, a feeling of much regret was expressed in Wellington at

losing tlie services of a representative who was at once able, honorable, an d thoroughly honest and straightforward. Should Mr Levin desire to enter Parliament once more, we have no doubt that he could readily secure a si at as representative of one of .the city constituencies. We do most hope to see Mr Levin in Parliament again, either immediately or at some_ future period. Speculating on the probability of a general election soon coming oft, it may he noted that Mr Bunny will of course again contest the seat for Wairarapa South against our present member, Mr W. 0. Buchanan. In that ease there will be a good fight, though the issues will be somewhat different from those of the last contest. Mr Buchanan’s opinions on the present position oi political affairs were very fully and clearly expressed in his speeches to his constituents, and of course he would go before the electors in any fresh contest wt hj a similar platform. What Mr Bunny’s political views may be. he has not yet had any opportunity of declaring, but they will doubtless be fully placed before!the electors when the occasion arises. When the time comes [and the candidates have put forth their programmes, the electors of Wairarapa South will know exactly “ how the land lies.”
