■ A man named Sydney Knight, of Dunedin, has been fined £5 for cruelly bcatiug his wife. Ho was also bound over to keep the peace, aud finding no sureties was sent to gaol for six months. It came cut in evidence that Sydney Knight battered aud bruised his unhappy wife because she would not go out to the streets as a prostitute and earn money for him, by leading k sa immoral life, It is
