SPORTING.

(By Lcddesdown)

The handicaps for this meeting, as I anticipated, have given such general satisfaction that in the Hurdles all have accepted, and In the T. C. J. C. all but two, viz , Gabble and Trickster, who of course, were not expected. In the (Jlareville Handicap all the beat horses are evidently determined to try conclusions with the exception of the Scrub, who is well in for the T. <J. J. C.. and liollo, whose owner probably does not fancy giving Revoke Ist lib. The other (Te Whiti), v.-ich has not accepted for the Cup, u entered for tbs MaiJeu Plate, which is more in his sphere as iu the other company the weight even of a half-penny newspaper stamp would not give him achauosto be near the front. It may be rather premature for me to make any selections to-day, but weather continuing as at present, the results will not be affected thereby, consequently lor the Hardies I shall put Ngatitoa 1, Walk Over 2, Loch Lomond 3, but regarding places m this event I will uot be suiprised to find tbe third first. Anyhow I consider the finish will be of tbe three first somewhat iu the order I have named. For the T. C. J. C. I would commend Ugly Buck to the especial notice ol those who would be interested in the winner for this event, with Rumour second. Little Scrub or Hollo third. It will be a surpri • to ms if Little Scrub should prove the winner, bat in the two miles I hold him to be dangerous until tbe judge’s decision it given For the one and a-half miles (Olarevills Handicap) I shall select Revoke with fiat lllba for first place, with Rumour and Ugly Book second and third, or vice vena. For the* Maiden Plate I have a gre it notion of Wool* man, with Te Whiti iu close attendance. I would not venture to deal with any of tbe others, aa they have yet to prove that they are worthy of reliance. This meeting cornea at a good unjc, and there is nothing now. barring weather, to hinder the moat unqualified success of the same.

la the Wanganui Cup. the highest weight accepting hemp uudei H->t 191b, it has been raised to tli iI. and the others in proptrtion. Pasba'a weight, inc u img t m 51b ps-iaby he incurred by winning the W. R. Hmdioip, is 'Jst lib, Waitin'* Hst 31'>, and Salvage's B*t.
