Gardeners’ Calendar for February.
Flower Garden.—Thin out weak leterale of dahlias, take off all deformed buds, if fine flower* are desired, and give them waterings of liquid manure. Bud roses. Layer and pat in pipings of carnations and pinks; propagate pansiee from small side shoots ; they make better plants than older catlings. Thin oat late annuals, and water when needed. Put in enttinge oI pentstemons, verbena, shrubby calceolaria, iresine. and other bedding plants, for next season. In striking geranium**, taae cuttings that have been well exposed to the •an ; withhold watering the plants lor a few days previous to taking off the cuttings. Give attention to eleanlinecs by keeping the weeds down and removing decayed flowers. Save choice flower seeds as they ripen. Frnit Garden.—This is the month for bndding fruit trees. Bemove all stray shoots and cross blanches. Thin out goose be rrv and currant trees, if not done last month. Apple trees that are affected with 'he woolly aphis should be gone over with a small brash, with oeatsloot or castor oil ; two or three bandtfal of slacked lime incorporated with the soil at the roots is very beneficial and effective. Kitchen Garden.—Sow in the fir-t week in a eool and shaded place, cauliflower, breeoli, cabbage, savoy, brnaaels sprouts, and spinach, and plant out from last month’s sowings at any time with change of weather, and prese the toil firmly around the roots. Keep the bos at work, and prevent weeds from seeding. Make a sowing of lettuce very thinly, to waain either in rows or beds; if transplanted at this tima of eeaeon they are more hMy to run to seed.
