The raoae at Island Bay on Friday were very largely attended, notwithstanding there were so many counter attractions. On the road to the course there was a constant atream of vehicles of every description, all loaded even to excess, with passengers boned for the races. The road on account of the long drought, was very dusty and a stiff breeze was blowing during the day, whioh tended to make the journey to and bom the coarse rather unpleasant. Mr 0. B. Press, of the Prince of Wales’, conducted the inside publican’s booth and the luncheon tent, and gave the utmost satisfaction, many of tha visitors being very agreeably surprised to find so many good things provided, and in inch a liberal and well arranged manner. The Stewards and officers of the Clab carried out their duties in a must able manner, and the proceedings went off without a hitch. The onlr disagreeable feature whioh marred to a large extent the day’s enjoyment, so far aa country visitor* just down for one day were concerned, wee the difficulty in getting off the course by means of public conveyances. Numbers of persons who had to catch the trains to the Wairarapa and elsewhere had to walk all tbs distance from the Bay to Wellington, certainly not a pleasant wind up to a day's holiday. In other towns in the colony beside Wellington those who cater (or the public in this respect generally provide good accommodation for the conveyance of persona to race coarse whioh are not adjacent to a railway station. It is true numbers of vehicles could be seen returning to the comae when most of the people were halfway on their way toward the town, but as they were bound direct for the coarse where they would probably find very few. the arrangement appeared very absurd.
