Well Sinking.
To the Editor of the Standard.
Sta,—lf you wi)l*allow me spaed in your columns I would like to expose the dishonest tactics of a certain self-utyjed tradesman in (ireytowu. This individual profestea to be a well sinker and pump erector; he has done a number of jobs in this district, renj few of which have resulted satisfactorily to those who employed him. 1 have a case iu point; about 12 months ago I contracted with him to drive a pipe and erect a pump for me for the sum of £y Ms, or thereabouts. The work not turning out at all satisfactorily 1 would not pass it, and positively refused to pay for the job, as the very fact of the pump not performing its functions 1 considered was quite sufficient justification for my refusal to do so. Well, Mr Editor, when this individual in question found there was no chauce ot my accepting the work as completed, he, some 10 months .after, came to me, and informed me in a confidential manner, that be wa* about to file his schedule, apd advised me to take 6T*r the work and allow him the amount on my contra MCOttot or otherwise I might receive no satisfaction a**t •• the assets would likely be nil. I merely ask yon to publish this letter to prevent my fellow townsmen being deluded and swindled in a like manmg. 1 am, die,, Wii.mn Jo»fh Ctamuv.
