And so at last our township is taking a step towards advancement. Our Town Board has actually accepted a new street and decided to make the Recreation Ground presentable—and all this at one meeting. Now, what will happen at the next meeting 7 Gas ! Oh yes, plenty of that, and very likely some of the old identities will shed tears on finding their old ideaSj upset. Well done Commissioner Callister ! And the local paper wants to christen the new street either Gardener or Observer street. We will wait and see. The suggestions which come from this quarter are no “ criterion,"—that we all know. Give them rope enough, George, and they’ll bang themselves. Stranger things than that have happened. Eveu during the last few days Carterton’s doings have been enveloped in smoke. We are awaiting further developments of sheep and cattle misappropriation. Who is going to the Christy entertainment at the Lyceum on Wednesday next 7 Why, everybody. Heaps of local talent. Well done, Foley ; you evidently believe in the old motto, “ Try, try, try again." Now, all you Carterton Druids, attend your Lodge meeting on Monday night. Election of officers, you know. And you, Foresters, your meeting is on Thursday. Oddfellows, yours is on Saturday. All your objects are good ones, therefore do not let your Orders retrograde. As you look Observer’s advice re Sports, yon will agree with me that, even without knowing the deficiency of funds, the bill might have been smaller.
