Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Council Chambers on Saturday. Present—Messrs B. Beys (chairman), W. Booth, H. R. Bonny, J. Reynolds. E. W. Dorset, N. Grace, W. Parker and H. Braithwaite. A letter was read from Mr C. Phillips concerning Josephs’ line, Matarawa. Some discussion ensued as to whether the Oiown grant had or had not matured, when it was resolved that enquiries be made In respect to the matter, and also to inform Mr Phillips that he wag under a misapprehension about the matter. Mr Bidgway wrote asking that the gates on Mr Shaw's land be removed, as the property was recently sold by Mr Ridgway to Mr Shaw, and the gates are the same which he erected- The Board did not tlnmk that they were at present justified ih making the present owner remove the gates, and would inform Mr Shaw to make the necessary application to the Board in respect to the gates. Correspondence was also received from the Ijlast County Council re rate* on Native Lauds, (tad asking the fioud to ebtfe in
contesting the legality of the reductions made. It was resolved that this Board is not prepared to incur any expense in testing the action. From the same re some work required at the Waingawa Bridge. It was resolved to inform them that this Board fully concurs in the matter. From residents at Kokotau re certain works required in their district, as the residents do not agree as to where the money should be spent. It was resolved that the matter be left in the bands of the Warden to expend where he thinks it is most required. MrC. Phillips and two others waited upon the Board in reference to the road which has been referred to previously, and they were informed that the Board oouM not do anything in the matter till they were satisfied in reference to the Crown grant maturing. The deputation thanked the Board and withdrew. Tenders for metalling Oliver’s line were opened, there being two at the same amount. W. Cadwallader’s tender at £1 2s 6d per chain was accepted. Accounts amounting to £lO9 were passed fur payment. By the request of the Warden for No 5 Ward, tenders were authorised to be called for certain works in his Ward, also tenders f»r metalling the Gladstone Road. Mr J. Reynolds moved that Walden be notified to proceed with the metalling on Hughes’ line without delay.
