Mr. Edward Shaw, solicitor and barrister, has filed a declaration of insolvency. Tbe once mightly Euphrates seems iikely to disappear altogether, according to the Times of India. For some years past the river banks below Babylon have being giving way. so tbat the stream spread out into a marsh, until steamers could not pass, and ODiy a narrow channel remained for the native boats. Now this passage is becoming obliterated, and unless matters improve the towns on the banks will be ruined, and the famous river itse'f will be swallowed up by the desert.
