Carterton Town Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board wag held at the Council Chambers on Monday. Present —Messrs Fairbrother (chairman), Campbell, Callister, Gardener, and Allen. Treasurer reported a credit balance of close upon £SO. He expected to receive £53 subsidy, and the remainder in June. Mr McDonald was granted permission to erect a verandah in front of his store. Mr Joseph Aplin’s tender for gravelling the footpath and widening the main road, South Carterton, was accepted, at £1 8s per chain, and algo for covering over the drain, dtc., at the corner of the Belvedere road, at £6 16s per chain. Messrs Beard and Gray’s offer on behalf of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., in giving certain pieces of land, part of section 207, for a pnblic road was accepted. Mr C. H. Zabell, who was introduced to the Board by Mr Gardener, signed an undertaking on behalf of certain residents to fence, clear and level the new road leading from Mr Gardener's store to the station. The Board resolved to take the toad over when the conditions were fulfilled. Mr E. Butler wailed on the Board in reference to certain bridges on Lincoln Road, and the Board promised to see what could be done in the matter.
The Clerk reported that he bad received £5 from G. W. Dellar, rent of reserve. It was resolved to give Mr Dellar notice that his lease of the reserve would expire on the Ist April, 1886. Mr Callister moved, and Mr Gardener seconded a motion to the effect that the Board take steps to convert the town reserve into a recreation ground, similar to that of Masterton. Messrs Allen and Campbell supported the motion.
