THE FINDERS AUBEBTED.
Some days ago n dead hand was found neat Sumner, a few miles from Christchurch, and it was stated that U belonged to a man named Howards who hud been missing for some time, it being identified by a ring upon one of the fingers. The imnd was found by Elisha Godfrey. This roan, who is a storekeeper, was, together with his brother, Frederick Godfrey, arrested on Monday niternoon at Christchurch ou a ehatge of conspiring to defraud the Government Insurance Department of £IOOO, the Mutual Life Association of Australasia of £IOOO, and the Accident insurance Company of £4OO, these sums representing the amounts for which Howarde had been insured in tl e respective companies. Yesterday Mrs Howarde was arrested upon a similar charge. The whole affair is wrapped iu mystoiy as yet.
