Martinborough.
| FROM A CORRESPONDENT. ’ The residents of this district are indulging in the hope that before long we shall have four mails a week to and fro. Mr Buchanan, has taken the matter in hand, and knowing his interest in the distiict and his influence in Wellington we are somewhat confident of the result A petition is going round this quarter for signatures, asking the Bank of Australasia to open a branch here for at feast two days a week. I am glad to find that the settlers around are taking more interest in the Pastoral Show, which comes off next week. The action of the Masterton people in trying to get it removed to their own township shows us that we must more thoroughly support our local institutions if we are to have them in our midst. There will be a largo number of persons from all parts of the Lower Valley present at the Show. The lambing season has been a very satisfactory one all round the country. We want better prices for our wool, however, and the recent fall has fed some settlers to consider the advisability of looking out for other markets.
We are a quiet little community, but we are growing strong, and in a few yen’! Maitioborough will, I believe, not be the lest township in the Valley.
