It was reported that the committee appointed, with full power to art, had arranged with the trustees of the Featherston Course to hold their future meeting* at that place, and the committee had accepted the trustees’ terms, viz : £T> per diem. The Poet and Minerva were out practising on tha Tauberenikau Course on Friday and Saturday, some hard work being done on both occasions. The Poet did four times round with the c'othcs on and bis stable companion acquitted herself satisfactorily to the owner, Mr Andrew Young, who was present. Uncle Tom and Rainbow did a turn or two on Saturday, and both took the temporary leap in good style. The course and plough is in very good fettle and some good work is being done daily. Mr F. Burt’s Nikau ch colt, brother to our old friend Patangitangi, is entered for the Birthday Cup, and in view of that fact, wsat a flutter on Saturday with Consul, about three quarters of a mile ; Rainbow joined in half way round. The speeliug was very creditable.

This morning Consul went twice round on the plough, tl e second time at a fast pace. Minerva then did twice round on the plough, making a strong finish and coming in without any fluster.

Tha Poet wm then sent round by Bolton on the turf, the first time at an easy gallop, the next at a pace that woule take seme rubbing out. Capucine did a gallop on the plough, once round. All the horses were in good trim for their work, and although at about 7 a.m. a strong breeze was blowing with a suspicion of an impending shower, the weather did not impede work, and the usual hour’s walking parade was uninterrupted. The Poet and Minerva leave Tauherehikau on Wednesday morning fir the scene of action. Administrator is expected to arrive in Wellington to-day from Napier. Consul leaves for other engagements to-morrow. Mr Bolton has taken a great fancy to the Tauherenikau training ground and will prefer to return for the season’s campaign ; ha says that he would not wish fur better quarters.

As regards the course I may say that the plough is in excellent fettle and the course is almost perfection. Mr Wilkinson informs mo that be has recently carted about fifty loads of soil to remedy all the defects, and it may bo remarked that a casual observer may see at a glance that no p .ins aio being spared by the lessee to make this ‘■■pet as attractive and comfoi table as possible hj r tho owners and trainers who icsorl to the Uimarapa.
