There is likely to be a fight in the House over the proposed vote of £150,000 for the East and West Coast Railway. The Government are not likely to treat the vote as a Ministerial question. A meeting was held on Friday of members representing districts interested in this railway. It is rumored that an understanding was arrived at to use every possible effort toward securing the passing of the £150,000 vote for the railway, and should this be lost, to resist any appropriation for either the North Island Trunk Line Line or the Otago Central. It is thought that the business of the session will be got through this week, leaving the prorogation to take place next week. Still, unforseen difficulties may possibly arise in connection with the public works propo» sals,‘in which case there is no foretelling what will happen.
