FEATHEEST6N BACING CLDB. On Monday last the committee of the Featherston Eacing Club met the trustees of the Tauherenikan Course, Messrs vVardell, H. Bunny, J. P. Bussell and J. Bidwill, and arranged with these gentlemen to hold their next annual race meeting on New Year’s Day, on the Tauherenikan Course. The Feathersion Club are to hare the use of the course, to be specially reserved for the Featherston Club on New Year’s Day every year. Mr Bussell said he would like to see all the clubs in the Valley amalgamate and hold one good three days’ meeting every year. Much discussion of a friendly and interesting nature took place, some good information being elicited thereby regarding the origin and progress of the Tauherenikan ground as a racecourse, Mr S. Veunel being credited witu having taking much pains and interest in this popular reserve in days gone by.

SATUEDAY'S KACES, In'view of the coming event at Island Bay on Saturday, 1 visited Tauherenikan yesterday, and was rewarded for my trouble by meeting Mr Taucred and his trainer, A. Lyford. At Mr Tancred's invitation I looked through the stables, Mr Lyford kindly ■uncovering the animals for my inspection. The Adminstrator looked the very pink of perfection. If he proves as good as he looks, and if the weight. 9st Tib, does not prove beyond his mark, -1 the Joker ” will not be far from the front when the Exhibition Handicap is all over on Saturday, supposing no unforseea obstacle prevents him from going for the stakes. Mr Tancred seemed to think that the little roan still carries a superfluity of beef, hut of course that may be merely a matter of opinion ; anyhow, his condition pays a bully compliment to his trainer, and if he does not carry Mr Tancred’s colors to victory on Saturday Lyford will not be to blame. A one mile spin certainly is soon over even with a top burden, but in such company as Pasha with Sst 51b; Clogs, Bst 411, ; Germaine, 7st 21b ; and Giriri, Cst 71b, it is hard to say, barring accidents, which will first catch the judge's eye. Then there is a possibility of a slip up with more than one of the outsiders. They have done it before, why not again. The Administrator hss been at the training ground at Tauhetenikau about ten days, and has as ye: done only a few gallops at half pace. The Poet from the other stable is in excellent trim, and under the care of Mr Bolton will make a good appearance on the turf on Saturday. There is no question but that he will make matters pretty warm if he faces the starter's flag with fist olb on his back and the right jock Mr Tancred has also at Tauherenikan The

Consul, who looks a veritable model wuen stripped lor work. If Consul's leg does not ■ trouble him this year he stands an excellent ’ chance to score a win for his owner on the Canterbury coarse. The third animal under Lyford’s especial care just now, is the Revoke filly, a very premising chestnut, as kind as a kitten and as gentle as an infant. This youngster is by Premier ont of Gossip, and will go for the Tanherenikau Derby if alive and weil when that event comes off. Of Mr Tancred's other stock the Princess Boyal this season will probably remain at Taratahi to consort with the Premier. Misdeal has already been so engaged. This stable will probably in doe time show with advantage an handsome Puriri colt, now a two year old. Also r.s yearlings, one colt a "full brother to theP.evoke filly, and another a full brother to First Water. We hope to give a good record of these youngsters in due time.
