Lunacy Laws.

Thu administration of our lunacy laws needs watching. A little time back two perfectly sane women were taken out of the Wellington hospital and placed in the lunatic asylum and kept there for two months without a medical examination being made as to their mental condition. The other day a woman was sent to the asylum on a grossly irregular certificate, though one doctor had pronounced her sane and another the reverse. However, the authorities managed to get a third doctor, who declared the woman to be insane and so she has been locked up. One of these days the authorities will look up somebody by mistake who will afterwards “ go for ” them in the Supreme Court and get swinging damages.
