WHAT A MISTAKE!
(To the Editor op the Stavdard.)
Sir,—ln my former communication I made allusion to 5 acres set apart on the Town Belt for the purpose of burying our dead, or Cemetery. This continued for some years, until there were about a dozen or so of nice graves ; but a time arrived when the plain was open for sale, and then our towns-Tolk began to think that the cemetery should be farther away from the town, and 40 acres of land was set apart for that purpose. Now sir, much of your valuable space has been taken up at different times on the Cemetery question and still we have no practical results, and never will at this talking rate. True we have had Trustees for many years, but in practice only for the name of the thing. True we buried our dead to the number over a hundred. True the Trustees might have made rules, but it is equally srue that rules to start with would not do the work. There is something else wanted, namely, cash,
Now as Trustees and rules are no Q?e without money, how is tins needful to bo obtained P Some one will sav have a subscription list here, there, and everywhere. Well, what’s to be done. lam certain that a substantial Slim may be got, and I will give you my plan. My plan is this ; - I will go or write to every one who has any dead there, as far as I can ascertain) and get ali (L can, after which I will go from bouse to bouse in the district a?, tar as lam able to walk, and beyond will write to e/eryonc, and 1 have no doubt otthe result. Bnt for this pur-, pose 1 require authority from the Trustees, and must enquire who lacy are. Thus far; But on enquiry 1 find that we are once more under a deadlock, the Chairman (having sent in ins resignation to the Government and we shall have to wait the Govern nor’s pleasure to call a public meeting or to appoint Trustees.
