A GLEE FOR NEW YEAR'S EVE.
Friends, kindred and neighbors, Come rest from your labours, Let care for to-night from each brow disappear ; Let every eye lighten, And every face brighten. Come wish to each other a “ Happy New Yearl" In high or low station, Throughout this blcss’d nation, Oh wish to each other a " Happy Now Year'.’’ Let mirth and love abound, While we all circle round, Boards amply spread with t he best of good cheer; Yet, ’mid hilarity, Let noble Charity Glow in each heart on this Eve of New Year,. Where pineth want or woe. Let “ thy ” kind bounty How ; Give to the wretched a Happy New Year. Yet, ’mid our gladness, A feeling of sadness, Steals o’er our hearts with n shadow so. drear ,■ Where are those eyes of light. Making our heanb. so bright— Those who where wi£h us last Happy New Year ! Now, here or;r song we end, Let our giro i voices blend, Fraught with ? sentiment deep and sincere : Sons of ova - land so free, With zsy d and loyalty, Wish to ou, T Sov’reign a Happy New Year ! Hay blessings mark, we pray, Her -.vise and gentle sway,— Gilding; the dawn of each Happy New Year,
