the endowment of a Grammar School, or what not—as the Board of Wardens or Town Council direct.
As strong objections have been expressed, particularly at Masterton, against the amalgamation of the Town Reserves with the Educational Reserves of the Wairarapa on the ground chiefly, that it would place both under the control of the Wellington Government, we deem it necessary to place on record that in supporting the proposition, we had the very opposite object in view to that here indicated. We desired by the resolution adopted at both the Greytown aud Masterton meetings, not to remove the Town Reserves of each from local control, but to remove the Educational Reserves in the district, and the revenue derived from them, from the control of the Wrellincton Government, and to vest the management of the one and the administration of the other in the District Houncil or Councils which must shortly be established in the Wairarapa. W r e did not, and do not contemplate that the Town Reserves of Greytown and Masterton should be transferred to, or that the Educational Reserves or the public lands of the Wairarapa would be permitted much longer to be farmed-by the Wellington Government.
