FOR SALE. rjMIE Entire Cart-horse GREAT MOGUL. He is not to be surpassed for symmetry as a draught horse, and a sure foal getter, For particulars and price apply to J. E. DONALD. Manaia, Sept. 18, 1867. [advertisement.] NOTICE. HAYING WRITTEN a letter for publication to the Editor of the Wairarapa Mercury a few days subsequent to the appearance of a notice advertised in the local paper convening a meeting of the rate-payers of the Carterton Road District. That letter was written for the purpose of pointing out to my Carterton friends several errors in the notice, which I feared would not enable the voters to levy a rate on any one that would not choose to voluntary pay it. Having called at the Merourv Office after forwarding my letter I was informed that the printer had been requested to make an alteration iq the notice of the meeting. I therefore suggested to the printer that as £ had promised to some of my Carterton friends to write a letter on the subject that a notice might be inserted to show them that I had kept my promise. The Editor having done so in his first issue I thought that the matter was ended so far as I was concerned, hut I was much mistaken, for I was this day met by a cowardly bully who resides in Carterton, and who is a terror to old and feeble men in the district, and he had the impertinence to threaten me with personal violence if I should ever dare to comment on any event that may occur within the limits of the Carterton Road District. I think it a duty therefore that I owe to the public to give notice to all Ruffianly Bullies whom it may concern that I hope never to live to see the day when I shall be so feeble-minded as to be deterred by any threats or fear of consequences to myself, from giving a full and free expression in any manner that I may think proper to any event or opinion that I may desire to bring under public notice. WILLIAM ANDERSON, Taratahi, September 14, 1867. P.S. —I am of opinion that the meeting of the “ Carterton District ” to be held at the Carterton School-house on Saturday, the 21st instant should not be recognised by the Superintendent of the Province —by the Provincial Government—or by any court of law in the Colony as an annual meeting of the “ Carterton Road District." lam therefore of opinion that the meeting shall have no authority whatsoever to elect a Board of Wardens—to levy “any" rate or transact any business whatsoever under the provisions of the “ District Highway’s Acts.” Would it not be better for the “ head-centre ’’ to try another start ? It would be a pity if he should drop it after so many failures. W. A. GREYTOWN LADIES’ SEMINARY.
