SHOP RANSACKED
HAMILTON TAILOR’S LOSS. Forcing their way through a rear window, thieves broke the combination lock on the till in Price’s OnePrice Tailors, Ltd., in the Hamilton Hotel buildings on Monday night, and decamped with about £59 in cash, leaving the premises in a disordered state after their search for valuables. Papers scattered in every direction greeted the staff when the premises were opened next morning, and a hurried investigation disclosed the till wrenched from its runners, apparently with some type of jemmy, and rifled. The stolen cash included a number of five-pound notes, in addition to one pound notes and silver.
A rear window, giving access to a small office was found to be open, and in the office there was ample evidence to indicate that desk and drawers had been thoroughly ransacked. Papers were scattered over the floor and drawers were pulled out.
The police have the matter in hand and issue a warning to all shopkeepers to take care that means of access to their premises are not left open. It is stressed that paricular care should be taken to see that rear windows and entrances are securely locked at closing time.
