THE GREAT SOUTH ROAD

DEVIATION AT OHAUPO. NEW PLAN APPROVED. Referring to the proposed deviation \ of the Great South \Road at Ohaupo, ' the chairman, at this morning's meeting of the Wiaipa County Council, said the original proposal to pass along behind the Ohaupo school had been re-considered, and a new plan was prepared, which would provide foileaving the Great North Road nearlv at the junction of Douch's Road and proceed southward to the school, cross the road there, and on a fifteen-chain curve to the cemetery,' thus lowering the gradient by several feet. The roacl to Kaipaki opposite the school would, at its junction, be lowered several feet —a decided improvement. He was firmly convinced of the advantages of the present scheme. Cr R. J. Graham said the ratepayers in the locality were, he believed, thoroughly in accord with the new scheme.

The engineer remarked that details had not been finalised, but he believed the plan would be in every respect satisfactory.
