ATHLETIC SPORTS

KEEN CONTESTS. TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. The annual sports meeting of Te Awamutu District High School pupils was held at Albert Park yesterday afternoon, when, but for the showery weather, a programme running to about seventy events would have been decided. As it was, something over fifty events were got off, reflecting considerable credit upon the teaching staff, who had organised the function ■admirably. The racing was keen and interesting throughout, and the handicappers clearly did their work well. Some of the events have yet to be decided, and a fine day will see the youngsters in action again—probably at the school grounds—(where hurdles, high jump, sack races, etc., will be finalised. The points in the championship events were: — Junior championship, girls: Fay Hebtlen 10i (winner of cup), Joan Ferriman 9i, Beatrice Corboy 3, Mary Crotty 1. Senior championship, girls: Dorothy Bloxham 12 (winner of eulp), Joyce Taylor 0, M'argaret McDonald 5, Doreen Carlyle 2. Some of the championship events for the boys have yet to be decided.
