He had always recognised that they could not have one-way traffic when it came to world trade. He urged that Glasgow commercial interests should consider seriously the advisability of seneding out representatives to the Dominions. This year, Mr Lyons, the Prime Minister of Australia, was to visit Great Britain, to confer with the British authorities and the Government on certain trade matters. In the past they had seen a lot of long-range firing, and that had got them nowhere. He sincerely hoped that they would have the pleasure of meeting the Australia Premier in Glasgow. (Applause.^ Mr Heath expressed himself as convinced of the possibilities of greater trade between Scotland and Australia.

Mr McLaren said that the British Empire had stood by Australia and taken her produce, and she proposed to respond to the best of her ability. There were great potentialities for increased trade between the Commonwealth and the Motherland. Sir James Lithgow, Baronet, proposed the health of the chairman, and said that Sir Steven was about to demit office after two most strenuous and successful years.
