POPULAR TEACHER
FAREWELL FUNCTION AT LEAMINGTON.
After nine and a half years as infant mistress at the Leamington school Miss Sara McCarroll is resigning her position, and this term will mark the conclusion of her connection with the Education Board. She is marrying Mr E. Morrice,' of Cambridge, early in the holidays. During the period Miss McCarroll has been at Leamington (sayr. the Waikato Independent) she has endeared herself to all, and while wishing her every success in the future, the Leamington people are sorry to lose a very popular teacher. Many evidences of the esteem in which Miss McCarroll was held were visible at a social gathering held in her honour in the Leamington Hall last Friday evening, when there was a large attendance of pupils, former pupils, and parents. The evening was spent with dancing and musical items. An enjoyable supper was provided by the ladies. Mr A. E. Peppercorn, chairman of the School Committee, . extended a welcome to Mr and Mrs J. W. McCarroll, of Te Awamutu, parents of the guest of honour, and also to the Misses McCarroll. He referred to the loss it was to the Leamington district that Miss McCarroll was leaving, but he was sure everyone would wish her every success in the future. During the nine and a half years she has been at Leamington, Miss McCaroll has always done her duty well, said the chairman, and the many children who have passed through her hands must retain happy recollections of their earliest days at school. Amid applause, Mrs Peppercorn then presented Miss McCarroll with a beautiful silver tea set, and she was accorded musical honours. Mr McCarorll suitably replied on behalf of his daughter, and said he would carry recollections of that night for the rest of his life.
Miss McCarroll was also the recipient of many individual expressions of regard from the pupils, who had learned to love her, and parents who had appreciated the imerest she took in her work and the clr.ldren.
