BOWLING NOTES

THE MUG'S LAMENT. You all know jolly well that I'm a good shot; It's no use your telling me that I'm not. If I miss, keep a curb on. your muttered abuse, Until you have heard me by way of excuse. If I'm short, well of course it is plain to be seen There's too much bally grass, or the rink is not keen. If I knock up a bowl that is not on our side, It's the skip's fault for telling me not to play wide. My delivery's poor, says some silly old chump, When a pebble or something has made the bowl jump. I am sure that firm shot would just have been grand, Had I not scraped the ground as the bowl left my hand. I was wild when you fellows sarcastic'ly grinned, When a good shot was spoiled by a vile-tricky wind. Then for others' poor play I must needs bear the brunt, Because of the number of bowls in the front. I would like to give someone just what he deserves, When his yapping behind me gets onto my nerves. And it was not my fault when my drive went all wrong, For one cannot see straight when the sun is so strong. That firm one of mine the shot bowl should have hit, But this ring on the back hand will not draw a bit. O dash it! to-day I can do nothing right, Because I had such a confounded bad night. You all know I'm a bowler and am not to blame. If, as now and then happens, I'm not on my game. Chorus of Li-staters. Hold hard, bold disciple of old Ananias, ' What about all the bowls you put up on wrong bias? —C. W. Clark.
