Acceptances for the Waipa Racing Club’s annual race meeting close on Friday at 5 p.m.
There are fewer fi*amers than usual in town- to-day for the weekly stock sale, moist of them being no doubt very busily occupied making ensilage and hay. The; fine weather that has prevailed for some time now is causing concern, for rain is overdue, and though it is urgently needed in some cases, others want to get ahead with the hay-making.
During January and February of other yeai*s it has not been uncommon to see farmers carting water for their stock, or even for household purposes, but already this summer the sight of wagons with milk cans filled with water is fairly general, in various parts of the district. Every effort is being made to keep dairy stock in condition, for if the butterfat production is reduced much at this time of the year it is difficult to restore it to normal, even though copious rains are experienced.
