BASKETBALL.
INTER SCHOOL TOURNEY.
OTOROHANGA WINS COLLISON CUP.
Considerable interest was shown in the annual inter-school basketball tournament, involving possession of the Collison Cup donated some years ago by Mr H. Collison, of Hairini, for competition between teams representing district high schools of Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Otorohanga and Te Kuiti. This year’s contest eventuated on the Te Awamutu school courts on Wednesday afternoon. In the first round Cambridge defeated Te Awamutu by 9 goals to 8, after a thrilling contest, in which the winning goal was registered right on the call of time. Otorohanga also had a good contest with Te Kuiti, eventually winning by ten goals to six. The final was a sterling contest, between Otorohanga and Cambridge, and victory was eventually gained by the former by twelve goals to eight. The trophy was presented amid rounds of hearty applause. The referees in these games were Miss Brown (Te Kuiti), Miss Lawes (Cambridge), Miss Hopkirk (Otorohanga), and Mr N. F. Oram (Te Awamutu). Three other games were also played during ,tlre afternoon, High School teams being pitted against Athletics, Ngutunui and Old Girls. In each case the victors scored 13 goals. School B defeated Athletic, 13 goals to 5; School A defeated Ngutunui, 13 goals to 7; and Old Girls defeated School C by 13 goals to 2.
