A FEMALE TWIST
Britain’s most daring and dangerous criminal is a red-haired girl with brown eyes and a disarming smile. Although only just twenty, she is suspected to be behind a number of sensational burglaries and “hold-ups” in Britain and France.
An elusive figure, the girl has escaped the police for months. Detectives have traced her to the North of England only to find that she is operating in the South. Recently, however, police threw a net around her and her arrest was expected. In the London underworld the girl is known as the female Oliver T-wist. “The daring of her escapades is astounding,” a vice-squad offeial said. “There seems to be no branch of modern crime in which she is not thoroughly adept. In smash-and-grab raids she has been at the wheel of the car, wearing a man’s cap and a heavy naval coat. She appears to plan and direct the crimes, and her men obey without hesitation. “Sometimes members of her gang are given typewritten instructions as to their ‘duties’ on a certain night, and there is reason to believe that she assigns secret duties to each man so that she herself is the only one who . knows the exact nature of the crime. This is to protect herself from informers.”
