LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
TOKANUI F.RANCH.
The third annual meeting of the Tokanui branch was held at Cross Roads Hall on Wednesday, when, after the report and balance sheet were adopted the following officers were re-elected for the ensuing year: President, Mrs F. H. Barnett; vice-president, Mrs Howeroft, senr.; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Illing; corespondent, Mrs A. S. Wyllie.
The following is the president's report:—
In looking over the records of the past year I feel that we cannot do better than take for our encouragement the words of St. Paul: "Forgetting those things, which are behind, and reaching forth into those which are before." We have to forget the mistakes, the disappointments, the failures, and through the coming vear reach forth to the new opportunities, the larger vision and the greater promise. I am pleased to report a steady progress. The expansion of this branch is very definite, evidenced by the increase in membership during the year. The friendly spirit that prevails, also a sound financial position proves the personal interest of each menlber and the co-operation for the success of the branch. The activities have been varied, but mainly spiritual. Some of our members wrote papers on these lines, and to the following we are indebted for assistance during the year for addresses, demonstrations, songs and elocution: Mesdames Hunter, Price, West. Bright Wilson, Pattison, Allcock, Telfer, Donaldson, Dawse, the Misses Eyre, Ross, How-' croft and Rev. Aires. We have been privileged with a visit from Mrs Eng: lish and Mrs Whyte, our provincial president and secretary respectively; also Mrs Horsley, when a social afternoon was arranged in their honour Te Rore and Ngahape L.O.M. members were also our guests. A very success fiil garden party was- held at the residence of Mrs A. S. Wyllie in No vember. The function was arranged to entertain the children. Tn Febru nry the branch were the guests of Mrs Thornton Walker, at Waikeria, where a. very enjoyable afternoon was spent. Our husbands tendered iis a successful evening in June in our honour. Warm appreciation and gratitude was expressed for the interest they have always taken in our organisation. We have during the year been able to assist in a. philanthropic manner. Be fore concluding this report I wish to place on record the gratitude of the branch to our town correspondent. Miss Davies, whose valuable co-opera-tion with provincial activities has been a source of continual interest, and whose services we hope to retain for many years; and to our own correspondent, Mrs A. S. Wyllie and our secretary, Mrs Illing. Their work of love and faithfulness has at all times been loyal, and to all the members of the branch we feel that by adhering to the aims and objects of the league they are doing a definite work in life.
At the conclusion of business the meeting took a social form, when Mrs C. Old,- on behalf of members, presented beautiful bouquets to the president, vice-president and secretary. Mrs F. H. Barnett appreciatively acknowledged same. Mrs C. Howcroft save an elocutionary item. Competitions followed and during afternoon tea the birthday cake was cut. A happy meeting terminated the close of another successful year.
