THE WAIPA POST. Printed on Tuesdays, Thursdays. and Saturdays. TUESDAY, 19th JUNE, 1934. THE SPORT OF KINGS.

poihtf ofrview, might readily be calculated to have checked the, normal flow of investments. Under these; handicaps, the Club's showing is all}the more creditable, and, be! it said, Jt serves to show in bold relief 'the unfavourable and inconsiderate treatment it has received in. the past. It can be said in truth that racing supporters here have little for which to thank the powers that be, They have been unkind to W'aipa: even they have been unfair. What influence has been brought to bear on the: : Racing Conference and the District,, iComimittee matters not a scrap; The fact remains 1 that Waipa has:a. claim ba-sed on successful experience which should never have been overridden in order to concede advantage to,clubs.'..which had straightway to transfer their permits to foreign racing, i tracks. The treatment Waipa! received was not even sports - manlike and stands to the everlasting discredit of those who willed the decisions. The Waipa Club, with a oneday permit, has upheld every traditional honour of thie sport. Its meet ings have beetf W£H conducted, ar public recognition is not withheld even if the powers that be are less appreciative. The Club has acquired a property and preserved it for all time as an open space; its supporters as guarantors liave carried the burden of finance ungrudgingly in order that the necessary' appointments might be reasonably a credit to the Club and to the people of Te Awa|mutu. A second day's permit is warranted by experience and result. Waipa asks no favours when it is applicant for what is only in keeping with the district need. How long will the Racing' Conference or the District Com'mittee take to appreciate that they are, not, called . upon to bestow favours ? All that is asked is that they Will deal justly where justice is merited.
